Holiday life to military life
Wednesday, September 19th, 2007Ah! Have been in and out of the country for the last 4 weeks.Went to Trengannu and Kelantan with Roderick on the 4th of August, came back on the 11th, went to trengannu on the 21st again but this time to Redang island with Allen and his friend, Cilia. Then, i went back to my old old kampung in Hainan china and Hong kong again. All in a month time. Starting from the first;
Met Roderick at 5.30pm at the kopitiam near his workplace and rushed to woodlands checkpoint then to Larkin bus interchange getting an express bus to Kelantan. An hour to go before the bus starts! Got to the pirated dvd store and got like a dozen of dvds. A notebook, an all purpose tool!!!
Got on the bus, after 2 movies. batterys dead! So… Its psp time!!! Woohoo! Ah. Its 5 minutes and felt sooo tired and started to blast my music and have a nap. Though it wasnt a good journey with lots of toilet and canteen time disturbing my sleep. Right! So here we are at Kelantan after a 10 hours journey. Went for a coffee and toast with Rod’s parents followed by getting to his mom’s restruant to unload some groceries then to Rod’s place to get some rest then to his mom’s restruant then for the next few hours at the restruant, got back for a bath and to the other restruant again till midnight.
Day 2
Went to Golok thailand for several hours and have seen security really tight. Overloaded Humvees roaming the streets, soldiers armed with m16s patroling the streets and an overloaded pickup mounted with RPG, with millitants armed with FA-MAS, AR15, AK47SU and lots of different wepons. I sure kindda freak out without the knowledge that they are militants or soldiers. Got lunch and kiss goodbye to Thailand! Got to get a real boring life for the next 5 days like day one, wake up, go to Rod’s mom restruant, go rest and to his mom’s other restruant again. At least i got to know a real nice girl, Jenny. Also tried real fresh rambutan, by plucking it half way and gobbling them up.
Day 6
Finally some action! Got to Marang jetty to get a boat to Kapas island alone, then transfered by a motorised sampan to Gem island. Went snorkling, a trip of a lifetime! Rented a mask and snorkle, got changed into bermudas and into the water! Dont wanna be lost like a headless snake and went on my first mission; finding nemo! Found lots of other sea creatures before i’ve found nemo. First, it was the sea urchin. Size of a tennis ball with spikes longer than making up a basketball, with 1 eye staring and targeting me at me like an AA missle. It was one of the most wonderful creature I’ve seen. With 4 colours in its eye; hazel, blue, green and red in the middle. I sure dont wanna get close with them with their spikes potentially able to kill. Then it was the cuttlefish! They are one of the masters of disguise, camoflaging from colour to colour with its wings neon blue while attracting its partner for mating, brown when it senses danger, neon green while fleeing. Turning from sand to rocks to even algae colour. Getting deeper, I’ve found bigger fishes like Rainbow and sand parrot fish. With an itch and a sea bug nearby, i’ve sensed something wrong. Swimming back to the shore, a bikini babe on her float shouted at me that i’ve got a jellyfish sting at my back. Went to the beachboy and got some first aid by squeezing a lime on my back followed by appling vinegar. After a Tequilla sunrise and half an hour of rest, I’m alive and kicking back into the next 72% of earth. Found nemo! In a soft coral which they always liked to hide in to avoid prediators and to clean themselves from fungus which are deadly to them after the fungus builds up along their scales. After 4 hours of snorkling, its back to Marang jetty then back to Singapore.
23 August
Allen and Cilia arrived to Singapore from Hong kong two days earlier. We’ve left to Larkin bus interchange from Tebrau city to Trengannu. After a 9 hours ride, a chauffer picked us up from the bus interchange then head to redang reef resort’s office to settle payment then to breakfast at a nearby coffee shop for bak ku teh then to the town’s jetty to Redang island! The back fire exit was what i expected to have the best view throughout the boat turned out to be a hole where you are supposed to jump out of boat. So i asked the staff where i can smoke which is definate to be al fresco. There i got! An open deck where i spent the entire 1 hour journey on. Here we are in the middle of the sea where we alighted into a floating platform then transfered into a speedboat to redang reef resort. Moving like a headless snake around the resort looking some reception area which never existed. This has already changed my face then. was told to wait at the run down dining area for at least 30 minutes when i am calling the office to make noise. Finally the ‘resort supervisor’ steven turned upand assigned us a room. It disappointed me more. A run down sandy room with 2 beds and 1 wall socket point! Lunch was a disaster. Crappy food with crappy quantity which promised a buffet spread. Pissed, i refused to eat and later dined at another better resorts food court which again, gave me craps. Ordered a Kampung fried rice but got a housefly fried rice. Found a housefly in my rice! Ahhh! Pissed me to the maximum! Went snorkling with Allen after lunch, cutting me everywhere from hands to stomach to legs. But that have not disappointed me too much. Saw umbrella like corals that can stretch twice the size of my toilet, baby sharks, gigantic rainbow parrots, clown fish, christmas trees as recomended by Rod, lots of sea slugs and lots of smaller fished surrounding us when we were armed with bread. Dinner sucked too but no choice. Too hungry to fuzz.
Day 2
Went for a breakfast with D-I-Y milo and you know what i’d do for diy milos. Thick milo!! Going with biscuits. Then we left for snorkling trip. After a 15 minutes boat ride, we’ve finally arrived at the snorkling location but was pretty upset by what i’ve seen. All dead corals in the bottom but mood was lifted when fishes gathered and squid were attracted. Soon, schools of squid were seen. Another master of disguise! They sure look good in the sea and will be better on the bbq pit. A 9 feet shark was later spotted by the only lucky person. Then it was time to say goodbye to the spot. Dinner was at least a little better but still has no standard.
